CENTUM is an integrated production control system that is used in a wide variety of industries to manage and control plant operations.
In 1975, Yokogawa introduced CENTUM, the world's first distributed control system. So far, more than 20,000 systems have been delivered around the world. In 2008, CENTUM VP, the 8th generation of the CENTUM series, was released to the market.

Released in February 2008, CENTUM VP is the 8th generation of the CENTUM series of integrated production control systems. CENTUM VP incorporates the know-how that Yokogawa has gained over the past 30 years in the industry automation field, and is a highly reliable, leading-edge technology for plant operations.
VP stands for VigilantPlant®. Based on this concept, CENTUM VP promises to bring better information visibility (See Clearly), greater performance foresight (Know in Advance), and enhanced operational agility (Act with Agility) to achieve a clear path to Operational Excellence.

"CENTUM" comes from the Latin word "CENT" meaning "one hundred." The ending "UM" is commonly used for inanimate items such as aluminum and stadium.
"CENTUM" was selected because this product series can flexibly handle hundreds of applications and perfectly (100%) meets customers' requirements.
