CENTUM CS 3000 R3 Release Information

On October 27, Yokogawa released version R3.08 of the CENTUM CS 3000 R3. This upgrade provides a new alarm management function as well as enhancements to existing functions.

Yokogawa has developed a new concept for the rationalization of alarm management and is now introducing this in a new software package called the Consolidated Alarm Management Software for Human Interface Station (CAMS for HIS) embedded in its DCS. This Yokogawa solution reduces alarm flooding.

It is well known that operators experience problems with alarm flooding in process control and monitoring. This is the first ever package that is dedicated for use by operators who are looking for appropriate solutions to the problem of alarm flooding and by engineers who lack the time to implement engineering measures for the reduction of alarms.

CAMS on HIS has a function for the acquisition of all alarms and events from the DCS, including subsystems. The alarms and events are processed by the standard sorting/filtering, eclipsing, shelving, and load shedding functions of the package. Value-added information on items such as the root cause of alarm occurrence, role-based actions, and previous action procedures help operators respond to alarms even more quickly. The addition of identifiers (e.g. purpose of monitoring, alarm priorities, time allowed to respond, user names) in the course of day-to-day operations ensures operators receive only essential alarms at the right time. When the number of alarms is reduced on the monitoring display, the most important alarms will not be overlooked and operators can devote more time to taking care of them.

This effort during routine operations to eliminate less critical alarms ensures that management can focus on those alarms that are most essential over the long term. CAMS on HIS also helps with the implementation of a top-down alarm rationalization approach to deal with alarms over the long term.

CAMS for HIS delivers only optimal alarms to the right person at the right time. It improves alarm monitoring efficiency and provides guidelines for the practical reduction of alarms.

The Control Drawing SmartParts function is a standard feature that helps engineers configure control loops more efficiently. Individual parts of a control drawing can be registered as components and reused elsewhere in control drawings. Whenever a change is made to a registered component, that change can be instantly reflected in all or selected control drawings using that component. It can flexibly register, edit, and apply the components. By re-using action-verified configured components, it improves engineering efficiency and reliability.

The gateway function of the System Integration OPC Station (SIOS) has also been enhanced to provide better integrity with the CENTUM CS 3000 R3.

Connectability with the STARDOM Network-based Control System has been improved to achieve high-level integration of the data for the control and monitoring of plants. STARDOM is used in many types of plants, including those of upstream petroleum industry processes (oil wells) and utility facilities. Faceplates and tuning windows on the CENTUM CS 3000 HIS can monitor and operate the STARDOM FCN/FCJ NPAS POUs (equivalent to CS 3000 function blocks) without decreasing CS 3000 performance. The utility monitoring function has been enhanced without changing the CS 3000 logic. All data integration is implemented on the SIOS.

The CENTUM CS 3000 consolidates FCN/FCJ system alarms and NPAS POU process alarms using the CAMS for HIS software package. A single alarm window allows operators of different systems seamless operations, regardless of the system.

New function blocks have been added that enhance the integration of the CENTUM CS 3000 R3 and the ProSafe-RS. A Boolean Data Manual Operation Block with Answerback function block enables direct control of an on/off valve from the CENTUM CS 3000 HIS via the ProSafe-RS SCS. It also possible for the CENTUM CS 3000 HIS to reset a latch for shutdown via the Boolean Data Manual Operation Block, change an analog output value via the Analog-Type Data Manual Operation Block, and display the IOP via the Analog Display Block.
