At the National Invention Award Ceremony 2001, Yokogawa's environmental protection activities received two special awards from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology: one award for creative inventions, and another for persons showing special ingenuity.

A liquid waste disposal system invented by the waste reduction project team at the Kofu Plant received the 60th Creative Invention Award of the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation, as well as a certificate from the minister. The proprietary system is an energy-efficient condenser for alkali waste liquid utilizing waste heat from boilers. It has successfully reduced the amount of alkali waste liquid by 70 percent in volume from its peak.

Meanwhile, two employees from Yokogawa Management Service Corporation collected the Person of Special Ingenuity Award, which recognizes people who showed outstanding originality in developing or improving scientific technologies in the workplace. The winning theme was "Improvement of a Compact, Resource-saving Wastewater Treatment System," in which they succeeded in increasing the quality of discharged wastewater by regulating the use of chemical agents.
