The Kofu Plant of Yokogawa Electric Corporation won the Highest Award for Excellence in Electricity Use Rationalization in the year 2001. The conferring organization, the Committee for Rationalizing the Electricity Use of the Kanto Region honors plants and factories that have exhibited sterling performance in terms of efficient use of energy, i.e., electricity use rationalization, every year. The Kofu Plant was honored by the Committee for the following reasons:
(1) Reduction of high-voltage transformers through power monitoring and analyses
The number of high-voltage transformers was reduced from 24 to 16 by monitoring and analyzing the loads of high-voltage transformers with an integrated power monitoring system and simulating the optimally efficient use of the transformers, resulting in reduction of the transformer loss by 20 percent.
(2) Configuration of number-of-compressor optimization control and air monitoring systems
A number-of-compressor optimization control system was installed to enable precise pressure control, slashing the power consumption by 30 percent.
YEWFLO vortex flowmeters were installed in each area of the plant to collect data from these flowmeters to DX200 paper-free recorders, enabling the data to be downloaded to a PC at an office in the plant.
An air supply header valve was installed in each area of the plant, enabling supply/shut-off control for each area.
(3) Manufacturing equipment's operation optimized by power monitoring data
The pre-heat times for plating baths were optimally reduced by analyzing the power usage of the plating equipment heaters with the integrated power monitoring system.
