Interview with Botond Teglas
“Open and professional atmosphere motivates all the colleagues”
Botond Teglas is sales representative at Yokogawa’s office in Vienna, Austria. He joined the company in March 2007, looking for a new challenging job in a multinational company. “After finishing my technical studies I started working for a local company on testing and measuring processes. It was there that I first experienced the high quality of Yokogawa measuring equipment.”
Ahead of competitors
“In our headquarters about 40 colleagues are working for the Middle and Eastern European countries”, Botond continues. “Many colleagues from abroad visit us, participating in our training programs or working on international projects.”
“What is very typical of Yokogawa is that we are far ahead of our competitors, regarding innovations and the introduction of new methods and equipment. But, we introduce these new products only after we are completely sure of their success. Therefore the market considers us quite conservative, but the truth is we are not taking any risk.”
Practical solutions
Botond is very satisfied in his new environment and in his commercial job. His daily routine consists of a detailed desk research, looking for new clients and investigating his market. At the same time the actual clients of Yokogawa are visited or contacted by him, in order to maintain their good relation. “So I travel about 50 % of my time presenting Yokogawa’s products, processes and possibilities.” Botond is happy his background is technical: “In a commercial job like mine, it is rare to be a technical engineer as well. It looks like a contradiction, but it is not. I fully understand the needs of my clients and I am able to “translate” their functional requirements to practical solutions”.
Vision and ambition
31 years of age, Botond Teglas has a specific vision, lots of energy and quite some ambition: “At the moment I visit University on Saturdays and study intensively during my time off. It’s an investment in my future and that of Yokogawa. Of course I have the ambition to make a career in this company, but first I have to prove my qualities and ability in my actual job!”. Botond considers it a sport to open doors to new clients. Therefore he enjoys a little personal success which he recently celebrated: “By coincidence I got in contact with an Austrian company, an owner of power plants. We were asked to supply measuring equipment for their coal based power plant. Now this company has become one of our steady clients.”
Because Austria is a relatively small market, there are many interesting contracts with companies with international projects. “A good is example is one of our clients who deals with oil refineries on the world wide market. Through such companies I can come in contact with end-users on international market as well! Through these kinds of international collaborations I have travelled to many countries like Croatia, Slovenia, etcetera. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the opportunity to visit Yokogawa in Tokyo yet. But who knows…”.
Open and professional atmosphere
Asked about his relations with his colleagues Botond answers happily: “My internal contacts are perfect. I even have contact with colleagues in my private time. I must admit that we also discuss other matters than work, but it is obvious the atmosphere in our company is good.”
Yokogawa gives all employees the space to grow. “The open and professional atmosphere motivates all the colleagues. That stimulates us to give ourselves more than 100% for the benefit of Yokogawa and our clients”.
