Interview with Clive Davis


Clive Davis started in the sales business in 1985. “I worked for the distributor of Yokogawa products in the UK”, he says. “After the acquisition by Yokogawa I became part of the Yokogawa team. Since then I have held several product marketing positions. At the moment I am the product marketing manager for Europe and Africa for the Test & Measurement business based in Amersfoort (the Netherlands).





” Many milestones have been reached over the past 20 years, but there are some that are most memorable. Clive: “I’m very proud of the launch of the DL9000 1GHz digital oscilloscope in 2005. With the introduction of this scope Yokogawa set foot in a highly competitive and growing market where we hadn’t been before. The product has been a success and it feels great that I have contributed to that.”

About the changes that have taken place in recent years, Clive says: “One of the main changes is the establishment of the Test & Measurement Center Europe (TCE). It has enabled us to provide effective leadership for our business and the ability to work more closely together with colleagues in Europe and around the world. Product marketing has become an international business with a lot of contacts, both in person or via video conference. It supports the planning of new products and product introductions but also gives room for discussing matters with colleagues at the other end of the world.”

The establishment of the center has also had a large impact on personal development and learning. Clive: “Only a few years ago we started the Yokogawa University, an annual gathering of all our sales, sales support and marketing people in the test and measurement business. It provides a motivational forum for training, discussions on market developments and team building in order to take advantage of new opportunities and to win more business. We supply a broad range of products which requires sales people that are fit for the job. Training, improvement of skills and exchange of knowhow and expertise are vital. Yokogawa offers many opportunities for that.”

About his job Clive says: “Product marketing is a people business. Therefore, I spend a lot of time communicating with colleagues. What makes my job so interesting is the variety, both in activities, customers and products. It is challenging and stimulating to bring a team of people close together in order to solve problems and grow our business. Being part of the Global PMK team is satisfying and gives you responsibilty for the success of our company. Our test and measurement division is a market leader in Japan. Colleagues in Japan realize that the biggest opportunities for growth are in markets outside Japan. That means that the product portfolio as well as the product specifications must meet the requirements and customer’s expectations in many other countries. Our job is to make the market aware of our high product and engineering quality. Yokogawa offers everything that is necessary to achieve that while maintaining a very good team spirit. It gives you a feeling that the success of our company is also your success.”
