Yokogawa CENTUM Systems First to Pass Fieldbus Foundation Host System Interoperability Testing

Yokogawa CENTUM systems are officially recognised by the Fieldbus FOUNDATION™ as the first host system supporting FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus technologies in an interoperable manner. On 14 September 2000, Yokogawa became the FIRST vendor to successfully test against the procedures, in its Houston, TX, USA office, under the supervision of Fieldbus FOUNDATION™ officials.

The Fieldbus FOUNDATION™ launched its Host System Interoperability Test Project earlier last year. The purpose is to improve interoperability between FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus devices and Host systems. Recognizing the importance of this testing, Yokogawa offered its CENTUM CS/CS1000/CS3000 systems.

Demonstrating Yokogawa's commitment to FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus technology and its leadership in bringing the technology to the user community, Yokogawa furthermore announces a number of significant enhancements to its Fieldbus offering.

Fieldbus Redundancy
On 22 January 2001, Yokogawa released the world's first redundant H1 FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus I/O card. Redundant cards are mounted side by side in a chassis, and provide ongoing operation in the event that one card fails. Redundancy or single loop integrity is often specified in operations of many highly critical processes, including the oil & gas and power generation industries. Having redundant I/O cards instead of enforcing single loop integrity will reduce costs and contribute to simplify the system configuration.

4-Channel Fieldbus I/O Cards
On 22 January 2001, Yokogawa released a new FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus I/O card for the CENTUM CS3000 system that has four distinct FF segments. This card reduces rack room space and provides a lower purchase price, especially for large FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus systems, while ensuring secure operation by above-mentioned redundancy.

Mr. Yoshi Morioka, Senior Manager of Yokogawa’s Fieldbus Group in Tokyo, commented at the release: "Yokogawa is proud of our record of ‘firsts’ in the production of FOUNDATION™ Fieldbus equipment and systems. We will continue leading the way in this technology, for the benefit of both our field and systems product users."
