Nordic 3G attracts Yokogawa to Kista

One of the worlds leading supplier of test and measurement equipment, Yokogawa, is opening a Nordic sales office. In the near future R&D operations will also be established. The head office is located in Stockholm, Kista Science Park.
Sweden and Finland's leading position in the development of third generation mobile telephony is the main reason Yokogawa has chosen to establish a Nordic base. Yokogawa believes companies within the mobile telecommunications industry that want to maintain their competitive advantage should be located where the future of telecommunication is being developed. "Although Japan currently is ahead of Europe and the Nordic region in the implementation of third generation mobile telephone, the Nordic region still has a technological advantage. It is therefore natural for us to establish an office here," said Naoki Nakamura, Managing Director, Yokogawa Nordic AB.
Yokogawa has operations in 27 countries and is focused on further expansion, in which the Nordic operations play an integral role. The R&D facility for test and measurement equipment will be Yokogawa's first in Europe. "The benefits and experience we gain from the Nordic market will be used in all of our operations throughout the world. Combined with our experience of 3G in Japan, we believe we can create a competitive advantage, offering our global customers flexible and advanced products," said Mr Nakamura.
Kista an obvious choice
The decision to establish operations in Kista Science Park was natural. Sweden and Finland are centres for the future development of mobile telephony, and at Kista Science Park Yokogawa will be close to both Ericsson and Nokia, two of its largest customers for test and measurement instrumentation. "We are very pleased to have attracted a Japanese company such as Yokogawa to Kista. It is evidence of Kista's competitive advantage as a technological centre, and shows how interesting Sweden and the Nordic region currently are within mobile telephony," said Bertil Nyberg, Managing Director, Kista Science Park.
