Yokogawa's CENTUM CS3000 Certified by ABS for Ship Automation System

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that the CENTUM CS3000 Integrated Control System has been certified by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) for ship automation control. Since its release in 1998, the CENTUM CS3000 has been successfully applied to various industries as a fieldbus-ready industrial distributed control system (DCS) solution. Now, ABS - which sets the standards for ship safety as defined in the American Ship Classification Standards - has approved the CENTUM CS3000 as a "Monitoring, Alarm and Control System for Machinery and Cargo for Vessels with ACC and ACCU Notation" to be installed in ABS classed vessels or facilities. CENTUM CS3000 specifically conforms to IACS*E10 (International Association of Classification Societies) which is the most widely accepted international standard for this application.

Yokogawa has delivered 26 control systems (CENTUM series) for projects in the field of LNG vessel and FPSO (Floating Production & Storage, Offloading). In order to meet the market growth of building new LNG vessels and FPSO, Yokogawa plans to be granted certification and approval for the CENTUM CS3000 by other major ship standards organizations.

"We are also very interested in expanding into the FPSO application, which is in big demand worldwide", says Teruyoshi Minaki, Senior Vice President, International Business HQ,, Yokogawa Electric Corporation. "Now that we have achieved the ABS standards approval, we are confident that the reliability and flexibility of the CENTUM CS3000 will allow it to be approved by other associated safety and standards organizations. We work very hard to make sure that our solutions deliver real value to our customers, including special applications such as this."

CENTUM CS3000 continues to be globally accepted by major international companies and agencies. CENTUM CS3000 not only includes the latest Windows and FOUNDATION Fieldbus technology, but also provides a clear migration path for users of previous versions.
