Yokogawa Italia Wins Contract to Supply Enel Control System

Out of the six major worldwide suppliers of power plant automation, Enel has chosen Yokogawa Italia to supply its new Tuscan power plant. After long competition and considering demanding technical features of the offered systems, Yokogawa has won the contract to supply the main plant control system in a new combined cycle power plant located in Santa Barbara AR, Tuscany, Italy.
The plant will be equipped with a gas turbine/ steam turbine, heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), together with ancillary equipment, and will produce about 400Mwatts. Yokogawa will supply CENTUM CS3000 distributed control (DCS) systems. The CENTUM offers “seven 9s’ availability/reliability. (In redundant configuration the CS3000 has 99.99999% availability, hardware and software included).
The scope of Yokogawa Italia supply includes: ESD, Fire Fighting, time synchronization, water treatment, remote gas station, systems, Fieldbus instrumentation, detailed engineering and design (Fieldbus Foundation (FF) and Profibus (Pb) networking included), erection and installation. As a further proof of CS3000’s open standards interoperability, the supply includes the management of 17 different kinds of ancillary systems, the links realized through , Ethernet TCP/IP (via OPC), serial modbus interface and Property protocols.
The system will handle about 6 000 I/O points (including FF and Profibus) directly, and about 10 000 I/O points from ancillary third party systems. Yokogawa will supply Enel with specific software solutions for power generation applications including PRM (Plant Resource Manager) which will handle FF, Profibus, HART, and 4-20mA), Predictive Maintenance, Performance Calculation package, SOE (Sequence of Events with 1 ms resolution), PIMS (Plant Information Management Systems) and others.
More than 9 man-years, excluding the erection and installation activities, will be necessary to develop the project, which will be ready at the FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) stage before the end of 2005, and at the SAT (Site Acceptance Test) in May 2006 (completely installed, networking and field devices included).
The plant will be built, for Enel GEM, by Enelpower (EPC contractor).
Yokogawa Italia’s objective will be the reduction of Enel GEM’ s cost together with the best plant performance in line with the “SEE clearly; KNOW in advance; ACT with agility”, Vigilantplant campaign that Yokogawa group launched for its customers last year.
