Yokogawa to Join FDT JIG Steering Committee - EDD and FDT/DTM Technologies to Benefit both Customers and Engineers
Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that it will join the steering committee of the Field Device Tool Joint Interest Group (FDT JIG) to provide customers with more convenient, standards-compliant methods for configuring a wide range of process instruments.
Together with other member companies, Yokogawa will facilitate the expansion of device connectivity and configuration capabilities using standard technologies such as FOUNDATION fieldbus, HART and Profibus. In so doing it will utilize the full capabilities of a wide range of process instruments connected to Yokogawa control systems such as the CENTUM CS3000 and Stardom as well as asset management packages such as Plant Resource Manager (PRM). In addition, through the use of the electronic device description (EDD) and FDT/ DTM (device type manager) technologies, Yokogawa will be able to offer best in class tools for the configuration, diagnosis and maintenance of its own and other vendors’ field devices and analytical instruments. This solution will allow Yokogawa to offer open technology solutions that integrate process devices into a total plant operation.
Yokogawa appreciates the differences between these two technologies and believes both will bring benefits to customers and engineers. EDD provides system manufacturers with a consistent and unified access path to instruments, while FDT/DTM offers instrument manufacturers the freedom to offer the best configuration tool without interfacing to control systems.
