In one of the biggest leaps forward into the new century of systems development
and integration, the Yokogawa group has turned its Yokogawa Marex plant information
subsidiary in Cowes (UK) into its global centre-of-excellence for its new generation
of Manufacturing Executions Systems (MES) worldwide.
Nigel Bowden, previously the Operations Director at Cowes, has been promoted
to Managing Director to drive this new direction for Yokogawa Marex. Nigel has
been responsible for the development, delivery and commissioning of many global
information systems for big industry players such as Shell, Chevron, Unilever,
Cargill and Sabic.
The global challenge of MES
Yokogawa dominates many industries and regions with its industry-standard
distributed control systems (DCS). Today, as the pressure on industrial margins
and environmental regulation increases, and plants reach ever-greater degrees
of complexity, a new need has emerged. A growing requirement is for state-of-the-art
MES systems that sit above the hard-working CDS layer and provide plant operators
with integrated business information in real time and historically. Yokogawa
have created a powerful portfolio of integrated software solutions which reside
in the MES domain. This portfolio of software and solution-based services are
delivered through regional MES Centres of Expertise in Singapore, the Netherlands
and USA. Yokogawa Marex as the Global MES Centre provides co-ordination and
support for the regional MES centres whilst also delivering complex information
system solutions for strategic Yokogawa 'Total Solutions' project implementations.
Nigel Bowden, Yokogawa Marex Managing Director, adds: "Yokogawa is big
in DCS and big worldwide. It is in recognition of the outstanding work that
Yokogawa Marex has put into the development of industry-beating systems such
as Exaquantum that Yokogawa has given us the challenge of maximising its worldwide
MES business in the years to come.
