Yokogawa Marex has been awarded the contract to provide a full turnkey integrated
information system (IIS) at the Sohar Refinery complex in Oman. The information
system is part of a turnkey solution delivered through the YHQ International
Sales Group, which includes control and safety systems in addition to the information
management solution. Yokogawa's world-beating Exaquantum PIMS plant information
management solution will form the base of the implementation. Additional packages
that Yokogawa Marex will be integrating are: a Labware laboratory information
system; Maximo's maintenance management package; and other PIMS interfacing
systems.
The award of this contract, including the implementation engineering work, underlines
Yokogawa Marex's expertise and reputation within the industry. The scale of
this implementation is similar to that of GASCO at Al Ameryiah in Egypt, where
the Egyptian Natural Gas Company has installed an Exaquantum-based integrated
information system (IIS), one of the most powerful available today, and Shell
Pernis, a mega-refinery in Rotterdam, where Yokogawa Marex's experience is needed
to ensure the smooth running of highly complex projects.
The company's success at Sohar confirms YMX's position as the Yokogawa Group's
Global Center Of Excellence for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). Yokogawa
Marex was appointed to this role in October 2003 when execution systems specialist
Nigel Bowden took over as managing director. Since then the company has been
making large gains in the process sector, forging forward with increasing vigour.
Recent project awards, such as the Sohar project, grow Yokogawa Marex's resurgence,
which will continue as further projects similar to this are executed out of
the company's Cowes base.
Nigel Bowden adds: "The Sohar refinery contract is an outstanding example
of a full turnkey project for which we have a particular expertise. Todays's
megaplants require end-to-end integration, not just software insertions. Our
work around the world, for the giants of the process industries, gives us a
deep insight of the business and management needs of our clients. Management
Execution Systems (MES) are at the heart of today's global manufacturing and
Yokogawa is set to grow with this expanding market."
