Objectives
System Managers are able to configure the application to meet the demand of the process operator. This lecture-based course combined with lab exercises provides the opportunity for hands-on experience to configure FAST/TOOLS.
The main objective of the course is to educate the participant fully to "FAST/TOOLS System Manager", who will be able to:
- add new users to the system.
- add process variables and to connect them to equipment (e.g. PLC’s).
- configure alarm situations (e.g. limits, activation, alarm text, suppression, acknowledgement).
- show process variables and to display historical information.
- process control functions (classes).
- define user reports.
- create mimics on colour stations.
- operate the functions on monochromatic terminals and colour workstations.
Audience
The course is meant for System Managers who will configure and/or maintain the FAST/TOOLS operational environment.
Duration
Course duration is 5 days.
Prerequisites
Fundamental knowledge of computers and a working knowledge of MS-Windows.

Day 1:

- User Interface.
- Exercise: Adding new users.
- Stations.
- What are stations?
- Exercise: Requesting/changing station information.
- Process Variables.
- Exercise: Definition of Installations/Units and Items/Sub-items.
Day 2:
- The Human Machine Interface.
- Exercise: Creation of symbols.
- Exercise: Creation of mimics (with process variables).
- Exercise: Menu definition.
Day 3:
- Alarms.
- The alarm mechanism.
- Exercise: Configuration of an alarm environment.
- Historical Information.
- Exercise: The method of collecting and storing
- Objects.
- Object mechanism.
- Exercise: Creation of classes and objects.
- Exercise: Activation of objects.
- The class programming language.
Day 4:
- Objects – Continued.
- Exercise: Object definition.
Day 5:
- Reports
- The database and the structure of files (Data Dictionary Language).
- Exercise: Creating/changing reports.
- Exercise: Report activation/browsing.
- Exercise: Report destinations.
- Evaluation.
