Yokogawa Receives Order for Front End Engineering on Koniambo Nickel Project

Yokogawa Australia announced today that it has been awarded a contract for the control system design for the Koniambo Nickel project in New Caledonia. The Koniambo project is to be developed by the SMSP/Falconbridge JV in a 51%-49% partnership.

This work scope is part of the program to produce a bankable feasibility study for the project, expected to be completed by mid 2004.

The project involves the development of a 60,000 tonne per year nickel in ferronickel mining and smelting complex, based on the Koniambo deposit located in the Northern Province of New Caledonia near the provincial capital of Kone. The complete project is expected to cost in excess of $US 1,500 million.

Yokogawa Australia has a team of engineers working on the contract, based in the Hatch-Technip office in Brisbane, Queensland.

Yokogawa was judged the best supplier to partner on this large and important project, based on capability, professionalism, compatible cultures, and proven experience in successfully completing large projects, especially in the mining and mineral processing industries.
