Standards
Are the safety standards mandatory?
IEC 61508 and 61511 are voluntary standards and there are no legal requirements to follow them; however, many companies have been adopting these standards to demonstrate their capabilities and show that they take seriously their responsibilities to society.
For these reasons, it is considered almost mandatory worldwide to comply with IEC 61508 and 61511.
