Why do we need safety standards?
In response to serious plant accidents, efforts have been made in western countries to research and analyze the accident causes. Technical, organizational, and personal factors have been identified as the main possible causes of these accidents, and this has led to the formulation of international safety rules and regulations to protect people and the environment.
Published in 1998, IEC 61508 defined for the first time the functional safety requirements for electrical, electronic, and programmable electronic safety-related systems. As is the case with quality control and enviromental protection, concern about functional safety is now on the rise in all industry sectors.
