Pen Offset Compensation Function (Pen Recorders)

With pen recorders, pen offset (phase differences) between pens along the time axis are inevitable when measurement data is recorded on chart paper. Phase differences are one of the factors that prevent the accurate plotting line of measurement data.

This article explains the principles and working of the pen offset compensation function, which is included in the Pen Recorder µR10000 and µR20000 series, and corrects pen offsets.

Grammar Points!

  1. "Loan Words"
The Japanese love to import English (and other languages') words and incorporate them into everyday Japanese speech. However they pronounce these "loan words" using the Japanese phonetic system, making them somewhat difficult for native speakers to recognize. Here are some examples from our lesson:

    shatsu shirt
    se-ru sale
    saizu size
    kurejitto kaado credit card

  2. Katakana
Japanese have 3 different writing systems; 1) Kanji for Chinese characters, 2) hiragana for native Japanese words and inflections of kanji-based words, and 3) katakana for the loan words described above. There are about 60 katakana characters—more than the English alphabet, but not so many that you can't learn them in a relatively short amount of time if you put some effort into it. Learning Katakana is fun because if you do, you will be able to read loan words, whose meaning you will probably recognize. This comes in handy, for example, when reading menus in Japan.
Try to learn some katakana from the examples below, then check out http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http for a complete list of characters.
ko ka   ko-ra coca cola
ra i su rice
bi-ru beer
hotto  ko-hi- hot coffee
ma ku do na ru do McDonald's

Pronunciation Tip
Vowels are easy to pronounce, similar to Spanish or Hawaiian (as commonly pronounced by non-native speakers):
a = "ah" as in "taco" or "aloha"
i = "ee" as in "Tijuana" or "Waikiki"
u = "oo" as in "Eres tu" or "Luau"
e = "eh" as in "Espanol" or "Kameamea"
o = "oh" as in "Mexico" or "Molokai"
