Yokogawa Releases Mobiwave D10 Bluetooth Protocol Analyzer in Alliance with Singaporean Communication Equipment Manufacturer

Yokogawa Electric Corporation launched today the Mobiwave D10 Bluetooth protocol analyzer, which has features comparable to existing products for a third of the price. The Bluetooth protocol analyzer was developed by Mobiwave Pte. Ltd. headquartered in Singapore. Yokogawa entered into partnership with Mobiwave Pte. Ltd. to become the exclusive sales agent for Mobiwave D10 under the Yokogawa-Mobiwave label in the Japanese, North American, and Oceanian markets. Yokogawa will offer warranties and services for Mobiwave products, and in accordance with the alliance, both companies will cooperate in marketing Mobiwave products.

Background of Release

Bluetooth is a short-range wireless interface standard established by Bluetooth SIG, with a membership of more than 2000 including the leading companies in the wireless industry - Nokia, Ericsson, Intel, Toshiba, and IBM. The international standard allows wireless technologies to be used in place of cables for signal exchange between personal computers, cell phones, digital home appliances, and other electronic devices. Bluetooth has attracted attention as a next-generation technology for practical home networking and some forecast that 95% of cell phones and 90% of notebook computers will incorporate it by 2005.
Prices of Bluetooth parts such as interface ICs are expected to be lower for fiscal 2002. This will further stimulate Bluetooth growth meaning that almost all designers will require their own Bluetooth protocol analyzer. The high costs of existing products with the same functionality, costing several million yen, means the emergence of a high-performance analyzer at a lower price has been long overdue.

Product Overview

The Mobiwave D10 Bluetooth protocol analyzer is a measuring instrument that analyzes the protocol and tests to see if equipment is performing to design standards without interfering in network traffic. Non-interference is crucial for monitoring communication status across the entire network since Bluetooth performs master-slave interaction, and deploys frequency hopping in order to reduce the effects of noise and keep transmission data secure. Frequency hopping changes frequencies over the extremely short period that signals are transmitted.

Features

One-third the cost of traditional analyzers
The Mobiwave D10 is one third of the price of any existing non-interference protocol analyzer with equivalent capabilities.
A wealth of analytical features
The Mobiwave D10 is capable of analysis ranging from baseband to upper layers.
User friendly
Enhanced usability allows you to synchronize and capture data easily, and improved softwarefacilitates smooth switching of the display for each layer. Most conventional products required the screen to be switched to show detailed information, but Mobiwave D10 allows detailed information on a layer to be displayed by merely moving the cursor.

Yokogawa's Approach toward Field of Mobile Communications

Yokogawa Electric Corporation has been developing industry-leading products and established a dominant place in the field of measuring instruments for mobile communications such as the W-CDMA. The company also boasts a top-ranking share in the Japanese market of analyzers used for IEEE1394 interfaces between personal computers and peripherals. Taking advantage of these accumulated technologies, Yokogawa is concentrating its business efforts into the analyzer field. For example, Yokogawa entered into the Bluetooth market by introducing the BX1000 Bluetooth point-to-point protocol analyzer for upper layers in October 2000. In addition, it formed an alliance with IVT Corporation in March 2002, and began selling a testing assistance tool necessary for Bluetooth certification.
