Tokyo, Japan -
June 12, 2002 Yokogawa Concludes Maintenance Contract for I&C System of Largest Power Plant in Mongolia Yokogawa Electric Corporation announced that it has concluded a four-year maintenance contract for the Instrumentation & Control (I&C) system of the Ulaanbaatar Fourth Thermal Power Plant, the country's largest coal-fired power plant. The power plant, which generates 540MW with eight boilers, meets approximately 70% of the power demand from Mongolia and of the hot water demand from the capital city, Ulaanbaatar. The Soviet Union (USSR) and Mongolia built the plant and started its operation in 1983. However, the supply of parts was stopped in 1991 because of the political changes in the USSR. For that reason, Japanese government extended a grant-in aid, in two phases, beginning in 1992 to provide materials and engineers. From 1997, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation has extended to Mongolia a loan aid for repairing the aging plant facilities. Yokogawa received an order to replace the control systems and field sensors for boilers No.1 to No.4 as part of the work in phase one. The recent contract is for the maintenance of this I&C system. In addition, it covers training on preventive maintenance and consulting, aimed at "preventive maintenance to ensure there are no failures". About Yokogawa Yokogawa's global network of 19 manufacturing facilities and 89 companies spans 32 countries. Since its founding in 1915, the US$4 billion company has been engaged in cutting-edge research and innovation, securing more than 7,500 patents and registrations, including the world's first digital sensors for flow and pressure measurement.
