Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces the development of the B/M9000CS-S measurement and control system. This is a quality control system (QCS) that is designed for paper production and coating processes in the pulp and paper industry. The new product is being released onto the market today.
By measuring the quality of paper production and coating processes with dedicated sensors, such as basis weight, moisture, and caliper sensors, the QCS is able to perform continuous control online and keep processes within given quality limits. With the ability of these sensors to scan in a sheet cross direction, papermaking and coating process quality can be monitored in both the machine and cross directions.
The B/M9000CS-S can be equipped with three of the following sensor types: basis weight sensor, moisture sensor, caliper sensor, and ash content sensor. As the controller for the B/M9000CS-S, users can use Yokogawa’s world-class CENTUM CS 3000 R3 production control system and simultaneously achieve both high reliability and advanced process control.
The B/M9000CS-S is a core building block of Yokogawa’s VigilantPlant™ solutions that promise to bring operational excellence to visionary plants, creating an environment where plant personnel can “See Clearly, Know in Advance, and Act with Agility.” The B/M9000CS-S enables operational excellence by means of plant-wide monitoring and seamless integration with CENTUM.
Development Background
Since Yokogawa began marketing QCSs in the 1960s, users have praised their high reliability. Many of the systems delivered by Yokogawa are now approaching the time for replacement. In addition, there is a growing trend away from conventional systems such as the B/M7000XL in favor of high performance systems that achieve greater accuracy by means of an increased number of measuring points and which are integrated with the latest distributed control systems (DCS) such as the CENTUM CS 3000 R3. The B/M9000CS-S has been developed to meet these market and user needs.
Product Features
1. Combination with the state-of-the-art, highly reliable CENTUM CS 3000 R3
The QCS has been configured with Yokogawa’s state-of-the-art CENTUM CS 3000 R3 DCS as the controller. By combining the QCS with this DCS, a paper production and coating process measurement and control system with outstanding reliability and operability has been achieved.
Specifically, the QCS offers an adaptive control function for automatically correcting control conditions according to changes in the state of the paper production process. Furthermore, Yokogawa’s proprietary simulation function has been combined with the CENTUM CS 3000 R3 to reduce energy consumption in a drying process that used to be a “black box” process.
2. Dependable, highly reliable, and cost-effective sensor units
With its years of experience in sensor technologies for online-scanned measurements geared toward paper, film, and other sheet production processes, Yokogawa is now able to offer highly reliable, cost-effective frame sensors.
