Yokogawa Electric Corporation is proud to announce that Yokogawa Engineering Asia Pte. Ltd. has been awarded a contract to supply an integrated control and safety system (ICSS) for the phase II expansion of the BP Zhuhai LPG plant on Gaolan Island, which is near the city of Zhuahai in Guangdong Province, China. This single-architecture solution consists primarily of the CENTUM CS 3000 R3 Integrated Control System and the ProSafe-RS Integrated Safety Controller.

Construction of the BP Zhuhai LPG plant is being financed solely by BP. BP is the largest LPG importer and operator in China, and is mainly engaged in the LPG wholesale market.  Phase II of this plant expansion project will enhance BP’s position in this market by bringing online two new 200,000 CBM underground storage facilities that will make this the second largest LPG terminal in China.  These are in addition to the two 250,000 CBM underground storage facilities at the Ningbo LPG terminal, which is the largest LPG terminal in China and whose fully automated control system also relies on a CENTUM CS 3000 R3.

According to Tony Lee, President of Yokogawa Engineering Asia Pte. Ltd., this is Yokogawa’s first ever implementation of an ICSS solution outside Japan. Mr. Lee believes that the unified system architecture of this ICSS will enable customers such as BP to improve production efficiency and reduce cost of ownership. He sees the award of this contract as a testament to the fundamental strengths of this technology and to customers’ positive assessment of Yokogawa’s proven track record in safeguarding industrial applications, global resources for providing system integration engineering services, and strong local support infrastructure. He notes that Yokogawa’s service center in Huizhou, Guangdong Province, is well positioned to promptly provide a complete range of support services, including training and maintenance, to customers all over China.  For these reasons, he expects to see more contracts like this one from companies such as BP.
