Yokogawa Wins Series of Orders in the Middle East

The oil and gas sector in the Middle East is currently experiencing rapid growth that is being driven by strong global demand and rising prices for petrochemicals and crude oil. Oil producers and petrochemical companies in the region are increasing their investment in plants and equipment, and Yokogawa Electric Corporation is capturing a considerable share of this business.

Since the establishment of Yokogawa Middle East in Bahrain in 1990, Yokogawa has been experiencing steady growth in the Middle East. Building on its reputation for quality products and services, Yokogawa has recently been awarded contracts for several major projects in the region. In Saudi Arabia, this includes work on Saudi Aramco’s Khursaniyah Gas Plant and Crude Producing facilities, Hawiyah NGL recovery plant, and Juaymah Gas Plant/New Module IV; a multi-plant complex for a Saudi Aramco/Sumitomo Chemical joint venture (Petro-Rabigh); a multiplant petrochemical complex that is being developed by Sabic in Yanbu; and a Saudi Aramco Shell Refinery revamping project in Jubail. In Abu Dhabi, Yokogawa has been awarded two major projects, GASCO’s OGD-III and GASCO’s Ruwais Train 3. In Bahrain, Yokogawa is also supplying the control system and field instruments for BAPCO’s low sulfur diesel project.

The total amount of the contracts recently secured by the Yokogawa Group in the region exceeds US$200 million. Besides the CENTUM CS3000 R3 Integrated Control System, Yokogawa’s flagship product, the scope of work on these major projects includes safety systems, advanced process solutions, SCADA systems with RTUs, and field instruments.

To handle the expected volume of work from these recent orders and to provide faster and more efficient services from locations that are closer to its major customers, Yokogawa has initiated several expansions around the Middle East.  In Bahrain, Yokogawa Middle East is in the process of building a new facility in the International Investment Park that will double its staging area. In addition, Yokogawa Middle East will be establishing a new engineering center this year in Jebel Ali, the United Arab Emirates.  These new enhancements will significantly increase Yokogawa’s ability to execute process control system projects and provide prompt service to its clients in the Middle East.

Teruyoshi Minaki, Director and Executive Vice President of the International Business Headquarters, commented, “In Saudi Arabia, Yokogawa in particular intends to strengthen its engineering capabilities and provide a wide range of services including process automation, turn-key engineering services, training and field support services. Yokogawa’s mission in Saudi Arabia will be to provide services in the fields of control, instrumentation, and measurement while contributing to the growth of Saudi Arabian society through technology transfer to Saudi engineers and the employment of Saudi nationals.” Mr. Minaki concluded by saying, “Yokogawa’s ambitious plan to increase the region’s turnover fivefold by the year 2010 will significantly contribute to its objective of becoming the number one industrial automation vendor.”
