Appointment of Outside Independent Director

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that it has appointed an outside independent director. This appointment will be formally approved at Yokogawa's Annual General Shareholders' Meeting scheduled for June 2007, and will take immediate effect.
With the aim of improving its corporate governance, Yokogawa has made efforts to strengthen the functions of the Board of Directors and establish a highly transparent and sound management organization. In line with this policy, Yokogawa appointed Masahisa Naito as an outside independent director in 2003. To further strengthen the functions of the Board of Directors, Yokogawa has asked Yasuro Tanahashi to join the Board as an outside independent director, and has obtained his agreement to this proposal.
By making the best use of Mr. Tanahashi's wealth of experience in corporate management, Yokogawa will strengthen the functions of the Board of Directors and better position itself to accelerate the development of both existing and new businesses.
