Yokogawa Electric Corporation has received an order to supply control systems for a large oil refinery that is being constructed in Qinzhou by CNPC Guangxi Petrochemical Company Ltd., a subsidiary of one of the country's major oil companies, China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). For this plant, which will have an annual refining capacity of 10 million tons, Yokogawa will be delivering the CENTUM CS3000 Integrated Production Control System.
This is CNPC's first oil refinery in southern China, and is one of a series of oil refining and petrochemical plants that are being constructed under China's 11th Five Year Plan. Other major oil refining and petrochemical projects of this plan are underway in Dalian, Dushanzi, Sichuan, Fushun, and other locations. In 2005 Yokogawa received an order to supply the control system for the Dalian oil refining project, and in the following year a similar order was received for the Dushanzi oil refining and ethylene project. It is expected that Yokogawa will provide the control systems for all similar large-scale oil refining projects to be carried out by CNPC.
One major reason why Yokogawa won this contract lies in the strong reputation that the company has established over the years for providing reliable products to the Chinese market. Another positive factor was the company's extensive experience in international projects. Yokogawa aims to win contracts for the Sichuan and Fushun petrochemical projects as well, and to expand its share of the enormous Chinese market.
