Tokyo, Japan - March 5, 2008
On March 4, the new building housing the headquarters of Yokogawa Saudi Arabia Company and Yokogawa Services Saudi Arabia Company was formally inaugurated. This center of excellence staffed by a professional engineering team made up of an increasing number of Saudi engineers shows Yokogawa's commitment to providing a full range of services to its customers in the region. In conjunction with this formal inauguration, Yokogawa is holding a two day technology fair focusing on its execution of mega automation projects for Saudi Arabia and its technologies for the future.
Background
Since 2005, Yokogawa has been awarded orders totaling US$700 million for process control system and instrumentation projects by Saudi Arabian customers. Orders have been received for projects such as the Hawiyah Gas Plant Control System Replacement, Hawiyah Gas Plant Expansion, Hawiyah NGL Recovery Plant, Khursaniyah Central Processing Facility, Petro Rabigh Petrochemical Complex, YANSAB Petrochemical Complex, SASREF Oil Refinery Modernization, Saudi Kayan Petrochemical Complex, and Khurais Central Processing Facility. Recently, Yokogawa has been nominated as process control system supplier for two additional mega projects, namely, the Yanbu Export Refinery Project and the Ma'aden Phosphate Project. The engineering work for these projects is being executed with Yokogawa's traditional emphasis on keeping all its commitments from start to finish. New projects of a similar type and size will be engineered locally in Saudi Arabia.
These new facilities are located on the Dhahran Techno-Valley campus of the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM). The Yokogawa companies look forward to the possibility of cooperating with KFUPM
's R&D resources and technology exchanges. As such, Yokogawa anticipates that it will contribute to the society of Saudi Arabia. This is the background to the introduction of Yokogawa's broad range of future technologies.
Regarding the contribution to the society of Saudi Arabia, Yokogawa has committed to provide technical training to new graduates of Saudi universities. This month, the first two groups of engineers will undergo training in Japan, following on- and off-the-job training in Singapore, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.
Profiles of the Two Companies
Yokogawa Saudi Arabia Company started its operation on December 7, 2006 with a registered office in Al-Khobar. The company's new facilities are now located at the Dhahran Techno-Valley of King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran with 120 employees and a total land area of 10,000m2. This is to be expanded to 18,000m2, and the built-up area of 4,000m2 is to be expanded to 7,000m2.
Yokogawa Services Saudi Arabia Company is a Joint Venture of Yokogawa and Gas Arabian Services, long-term partner of Yokogawa in Saudi Arabia, operating since April 2, 2007. The company's main facilities are located in the Support Industries Area of Al-Jubail, with 30 employees, a total land area of 5,000m2, and a built-up area of 2,000m2 that is to be expanded to 3,000m2.
The two companies are led by Akira Ogawa as President and CEO. Yokogawa will expand the existing branch office in Yanbu, while planning to extend the network to Jeddah.
