Development Background

Field indicators are used in the field to display process variables (pressure, flow rate, temperature, etc.) measured by field instruments such as flowmeters and differential pressure/pressure transmitters. Although field instruments are generally equipped with indicator functions, standalone field indicators are used by service personnel to remotely monitor measurement data from field instruments that are in inaccessible locations, such as the top of a distillation column in an oil refinery.

FOUNDATION fieldbus is a global standard for bidirectional digital communications between control systems and field instruments. A digital communications system conveys far more information than its analog counterpart, displaying process variables and maintenance information from individual field instruments that improves their maintenance and increases the overall safety, reliability, and productivity of an industrial plant. This technology is entering wide use, particularly in new plants that are being constructed outside Japan.

To date, Yokogawa has provided a range of FOUNDATION fieldbus compliant control systems and field instruments. The FVX110 Fieldbus Segment Indicator strengthens this product lineup and meets the needs of our customers for a FOUNDATION fieldbus indicator solution.

Product Features

  1. Display of up to 16 process variables
In an analog communication system, a field indicator displays only one measurement from a single field instrument. In contrast, each FVX110 can display up to 16 process variables (more than any other indicator on the market today) from multiple field instruments, significantly reducing instrumentation costs.
  2. Excellent operability and visibility
As an industry first, the FVX110 has a knob for scrolling through displays of measurement data from field instruments. A full dot-matrix LCD with LED backlighting ensures excellent visibility even at night.
  3. High added value
Software download*1, PID control*2, and link master*3, functions that are not provided with conventional field indicators are a standard feature of this new product.

Main Target Markets

Process industries such as oil and natural gas, petrochemicals, chemicals, iron and steel, pulp and paper, electric power, and water treatment

Main Applications

Display of pressure, flow rate, temperature, and other readings from field instruments

*1 For the easy download and installation of dedicated programs to upgrade the FVX

*2 Enables control loops to be built in the field

*3 Controls FOUNDATION fieldbus communications and facilitates the smooth exchange of data between the FVX110 and field instruments
