President of Yokogawa Electric China Receives 2011 Jiangsu Friendship Award

Tokyo, Japan - September 26, 2011

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that Katsushi Aoki, president of Yokogawa Electric China (a subsidiary of Yokogawa Electric Corporation), has received the 2011 Jiangsu Friendship Award from China's Jiangsu Provincial People's Government in recognition of his remarkable achievements as a foreign expert in the development of the country's industry and human resources.

The Friendship Award was created to commend foreign managers of overseas-based companies who have contributed for many years to the development of science and technology, industry, education, and other fields in China. It is the highest honor conferred on foreigners working in China. The recipients are selected every year by the central government and each of the country's administrative districts (provinces and major cities), and the highest award is the National Friendship Award conferred by the central government. Friendship Awards such as the Jiangsu Friendship Award that are given by the local governments of administrative districts are considered the next highest honor after the national award, and recipients become candidates for the national award for the following two years. A total of 16 individuals received the Friendship Award in Jiangsu Province this year, of whom two, including Mr. Aoki, were Japanese.

Mr. Aoki received this award in recognition of the following:

  • For the founding of Suzhou Yokogawa Meter Company in 1988, which made Yokogawa the first Japanese company to establish a presence in the Suzhou National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, and for encouraging other Japanese companies to do the same
  • For the founding of the Suzhou Nissho Club to provide opportunities for exchanges with Japanese companies that led to the development of closer economic ties between China and Japan and the establishment of friendships between people of the two countries
  • For working together with the Consulate-General of Japan in Shanghai and the Suzhou government to set up a Japanese language school (the predecessor of the Japanese School of Suzhou) for Japanese expatriates and their family members

In acknowledgement of the significant contribution that these activities have made to Suzhou, Mr. Aoki has also received the title of Honorary Citizen of Suzhou City.

Speaking of the Jiangsu Friendship Award, Mr. Aoki said: “I couldn't have received this award without the help of my colleagues, with whom I have worked for years, and I would like them to share in the joy of this occasion. I sincerely thank the leaders of the Suzhou government and all my friends in Suzhou.”

Yokogawa Electric China began producing flowmeters, recorders, and other industrial instruments in October 2003 and is one of Yokogawa's major production sites. The production volume has increased every year as the business has grown. Further, the entire company has been actively engaged in community activities, including a recent environmental conservation program in cooperation with neighboring schools.

Motivated by the honor of this award, we will continue to contribute to the development of Chinese industry through the production of reliable, high-quality products.
