What's PRM

Plant Resource Manager (PRM) is a plant asset management (PAM) software tool that works with production control systems such as CENTUM, STARDOM, and ProSafe-RS. With PRM and intelligent field devices, operators and maintenance personnel can monitor the condition of plant assets remotely. PRM’s diagnostic functions detect early signs of performance deterioration such as valve sticking and impulse line blocking. By helping curtail excessive preventive maintenance and enabling more predictive and proactive maintenance, PRM opens the way to asset predictability.

A way to increase plant lifetime and availability

Maintenance people spend 35% of their working hours doing routine checks of field devices and another 28% of their time responding to situations when no problem is found. This means that unnecessary trips make up 63% of field maintenance work.
Does your maintenance budget breakdown?

Online & centralized automation asset management

PRM enables online and centralized automation asset management. By monitoring field device health and process interface conditions online, PRM eliminates unnecessary maintenance trips and minimizes the need for breakdown and preventive maintenance, thereby reducing OPEX.

Based on open technology

PRM supports the FOUNDATION™ fieldbus, HART, PROFIBUS, and ISA100.11a communications protocols, ensuring an extensive range of devices to choose from. PRM fully embraces an open, rich, and intuitive access to intelligent field devices. Yokogawa has a wide range of field digital solutions in association with these technologies.

PRM supports open interfaces such as FDT/DTM (IEC 62453) and EDDL (IEC 618043). PRM provides an appropriate setting and adjustment environment and both accesses and displays the status of field devices. The adoption of these open technologies allows data from all the field devices connected to a production control system and a safety instrumented system to be displayed on the PRM screen in an identical way, regardless of the communication protocol used.

A variety of connection methods

PRM supports a variety of connection methods:

  • Via CENTUM VP, CENTUM CS 3000 R3, STARDOM, and ProSafe-RS
  • Via HART multiplexer and HART modem
  • Via FOUNDATION fieldbus communication card
  • Via Ethernet/PROFIBUS converter
  • Via field wireless integrated gateway (ISA100.11a)

Intelligent and integrated diagnostic information

A more holistic approach to diagnostics

Going beyond individual device diagnostics, PRM can integrate and process both device and process diagnostic data from PST Scheduler, GE Energy's System1 server, and a host-based advanced diagnostics server, thereby enabling a more holistic diagnostics approach.

Device diagnostics and host-based advanced diagnostics are available for typical applications:

Typical applications:

  • Impulse line blocking diagnostics for differential pressure transmitters
  • Heat/steam trace diagnostics for a group of pressure transmitters
  • Electrode adhesion diagnostics for magnetic flowmeters
  • Gland packing diagnostics for control valves
  • Valve health monitoring

When used together with Yokogawa's InsightSuiteAE services, PRM can monitor the KPIs of devices throughout a plant. Three specific applications are introduced below:

The ability to perform diagnoses online reduces the need for field inspections, and condition-based maintenance minimizes both planned and unplanned plant downtime. As a result, plant uptime can be maximized.
