6. Wife of a Rice Shopkeeper (woodblock print)

This woodblock print was used in the early Meiji era (1868 - 1912) to teach primary school children the importance of being honest. The woman depicted in the illustration refused to follow an order to deceive customers by using two different standards for measuring rice.
