Yokogawa Receives Letter of Commendation from JPCERT/CC for its Commitment to Control System Cyber Security

Tokyo, Japan - August 20, 2015

Yokogawa Electric Corporation announces that it has received a letter from the Japan Computer Emergency Response Team (JPCERT) Coordination Center (JPCERT/CC)* commending it for its contribution to the promotion of control system cyber security. Received on this date, this letter attests to the growing recognition of Yokogawa's efforts in this field.

Control systems are used extensively in petrochemical plants, power stations, gas plants, and other types of key infrastructure facilities. With the widening use of general-purpose information technology in control systems, there is an increasing need in this field for the same type of cyber security measures that are employed with information systems. Such measures must address the vulnerabilities of control systems to threats like malware. The experts in various fields that make up Yokogawa's Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) play a leading role in this by collecting and analyzing information on vulnerabilities, drawing up appropriate countermeasures, and quickly and correctly conveying this information to customers.

Yokogawa has been recognized by the JPCERT/CC as being a model for the industry to follow. In addition to its efforts in this area, the company has helped the JPCERT/CC collect and disseminate information on vulnerabilities. This contribution is highly valued, and has led to the issuance of this letter of commendation.

Yokogawa develops and provides highly secure devices and systems, and provides various security solutions that enhance for control system cyber security. In so doing, Yokogawa is helping its customers enhance control system security.

* This organization was established in Japan to respond to denial-of-service (DoS) attacks and other types of incidents that threaten website security. Upon receiving a report of such an incident, JPCERT/CC experts analyze the attack, determine its level of seriousness, suggest countermeasures, and develop and propose measures that will make the site less vulnerable. In 2014, the JPCERT/CC started to award letters of commendation to individuals and organizations that have made strong contributions in this field. In 2015, Yokogawa was one of two companies to win this commendation.
