Day in and day out, digital transformation leaders face many challenges, contradictions, and conflicting priorities on the job. Their success is critical to a company’s survival in this current hypercompetitive and fast changing market. They must be protagonists who set the ball rolling and take the first steps toward a digital transformation, which means they must bring together a diverse range of resources, spanning everything from technology and marketing to supply chains and human resources. They must infuse new ways of working in their organizations, and provide continual training in skills needed for a more responsive and flexible business approach. In these tasks, they will face many challenges and pressures from both inside and outside their organizations. They will need to respond rapidly to changing customer expectations and deal with constant innovations from their competitors and an ever changing marketplace. Inside their organizations, many may find that they are devoting too much time and effort securing understanding and support for their initiatives, and not enough time on the actual transformation.
