LI Blog: Thanks for joining the interview. Could you briefly introduce yourself? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fredrik Wieland:<\/strong> My name is Fredrik Wieland, and I come from Sweden. I have always been intrigued by solving problems, and these could be related to research or building IKEA furniture. My scientific background crosses paths with cell biology, genetics, and entrepreneurship. In my PhD, I generated 3D spheroids, optimised the microscopically imaging setup, and analysed them at single-cell resolution. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

LI Blog: As an imaging application scientist, what are your main tasks?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tasks as an Imaging Application Specialist<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Fredrik Wieland:<\/strong> As an application scientist, I am responsible for the first contact with an interested customer. As a result, I can better tailor a product to the customer\u2019s needs with my previous knowledge. One of my primary responsibilities is to support the work with the CellVoyager\u00ae<\/a> instruments and our software solution CellPathfinder, which could be through workshops, training, and 1-to-1 interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LI Blog: Why should customers decide to buy the Single Cellome\u00ae System SS2000?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fredrik Wieland:<\/strong> Our latest new family member is the SS2000 single-cell sampler<\/a>. It is an innovation that combines a high-class imaging solution that provides high-content imaging with true single-cell information. In addition, the whole product is set out to be fully automatic, from finding and picking a single cell or sub-organelle components inside a cell. This kind of combination will revolutionise single-cell and tissue research.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

LI Blog: What do you like most about your job?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fredrik Wieland:<\/strong> Coming from academia, I appreciate being able to sustain close contact with research. Concurrently, I can assist research with optimising the imaging setup and analyses, which takes off the load from imaging and analysing larger data sets. In addition, this job provides a dynamic environment, as I get connected with new research fields every day and have the opportunity to meet new people and cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Passion for 3D Imaging<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

LI Blog: Why did you decide to specialize in 3D imaging (organoids, spheroids)?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fredrik Wieland: <\/strong>Throughout my academic years, my interest in microscopy evolved. From my master\u2019s to my Ph.D. candidate period, I fell in love with spheroid imaging and solving 3D analysis of larger data sets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LI Blog: You worked at a university research institute before. If you compare, what is the biggest difference between an academic and a corporate job?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fredrik Wieland:<\/strong> The biggest difference between academia and a corporate job is that you are working closely as a team with your colleagues. In addition, you also need to learn to work with people from different areas inside the company, for example, business, marketing, and R&D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LI Blog: So far, what do you like most about working at Yokogawa?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fredrik Wieland: <\/strong>Yokogawa provides a flexible and challenging working environment, making every day feel new and fresh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
