New Release R4.02

This release includes a newly developed high-speed CPU module for the FCN autonomous controller. Based on the concept of putting forward a product that is Faster, Stronger, Smarter, STARDOM's FCN autonomous controller is capable of reliably controlling high-speed equipment such as compressors, large wind power generators, and other types of turbines, and is able to operate in a wider range of climatic conditions. Moreover, it includes a function that aids engineers in the performance of installation, modification, and maintenance tasks.

New Release R3.50

Communication between remote areas and the central control room is key to SCADA applications. The public network such as mobile or satellite phone networks are often selected to reduce the installation costs, however communication fees will increase the running costs. Also network security rules set by each company are hardened when public networks are selected.
This release of STARDOM is enhanced to solve those challenges.

DNP3 Unsolicited Response Supported

Data change events are autonomously sent to DNP3 clients (SCADA) from RTUs by unsolicited response. The polling interval and the number of packets are reduced in this way, communication fees are reduced and narrow-bandwidth networks can be utilized.

DNP3 Unsolicited Response Supported

Gas Flow Calculation Enhanced

  1. Mass flow calculation is supported in addition to volume flow.
  2. Venturi Nozzle and Tube which generate the Differential Pressure (ISO 5167 standard) are now supported.

Modbus Communication Enhanced

  1. Modbus 32bit TCP (Server/Client) is supported in addition to the Serial Communications.
  2. User can specify any TCP port number for Modbus TCP.

New Release R3.40

With the introduction of unconventional horizontal gas drilling techniques, multiple wells can now be drilled from a single well pad. As a result, the controllers for monitoring and controlling production activities at these well pads need to be able to handle more input/output (I/O) signals.

To meet this requirement, the STARDOM low power FCN-RTU has been modified so that it can accommodate an increased number of I/O modules. In addition, a number of these I/O modules have been enhanced so that they can function in more extreme temperatures (-20°C to +70°C).

The long base module (NFBU200) is now available as part of the FCN-RTU family.
With the long base module, up to eight I/O modules can be installed, giving the FCN-RTU the capability to handle up to 256 I/O signals.

A number of I/O modules for the FCN/RTU have been enhanced to function in more extreme weather conditions:
0 °C to +55 °C ⇒ -20 °C to 70 °C

Windows 7 64-bit support

The Logic Designer and Resource Configurator software now support the 64-bit version of Windows 7.


New Release R3.30

STARDOM controllers are widely used in oil & gas, water, and other applications where facilities are often hundreds of kilometers apart. These facilities are all key elements of the infrastructure on which our society depends. With release R3.30, Yokogawa’s STARDOM network-based control system has been enhanced to work better together with Yokogawa FAST/TOOLS SCADA systems. This provides additional protection in the event of a disaster and helps to ensure the uninterrupted monitoring and control of key infrastructure facilities.

Addition of DNP3 TCP dual connection support

With this enhancement, the FCN and FCN-RTU controllers now support a dual connection to DNP3 clients, enabling the same data to be sent to master and backup SCADA systems (the DNP3 clients) at the same time. With this feature, the system can switch over to the backup SCADA if the master SCADA goes offline, ensuring that there is no interruption in the monitoring and control of key facilities.

New Release R3.20

STARDOM controllers are used in an ever growing variety of process automation and other types of applications, necessitating the ability to communicate with many different kinds of devices from multiple vendors. To improv e connectivity, new PROFIBUS-DP and CANopen modules are now available for the STARDOM controllers.

New FCN and FCN-RTU modules

With the release of the PROFIBUS-DP communication module (NFLP121), a gateway is no longer required to connect FCN and FCN-RTU controllers with PROFIBUS-DP devices. As for the PROFIBUS-DP function levels, both DP-V1 acyclic data exchange and DP- V0 basic functions are supported. With PROFIBUS-DP engineering tool embedded on Resource Configurator, PROFIBUS-DP data can be handled in the same manner with direct I/Os.

CANopen communication module
A CANopen communication module (NFLC121) is also provided, eliminating the need to use a gateway when connecting FCN and FCN-RTU controllers with CANopen devices. This module is compliant with the CiA301 communication profile. With CANopen engineering tool embedded on Resource Configurator, CANopen data can be handled in the same manner with direct I/Os.

FCN and FCN-RTU Enhancements

IT security tool
With the enhanced connectivity made possible by the new communication modules, the STARDOM FCN, FCJ and FCN-RTU controllers can be used together with the CENTUM VP integrated production control system in an increased number of applications. To protect the combined Yokogawa systems against cyber-attacks, an IT security tool has been developed that allows configuration of the same security measures implemented with CENTUM VP.


New Release R3.10

To respond to market needs and give our customers a wider range of choices, several improvements are being introduced in R3.10.
For the oil and gas upstream market, the CPU module for the FCN-RTU low-power autonomous controller has been upgraded to improve reliability and functionality: it now has more memory and an ECC memory function.
For the power market, new control modules have been released for vendors and integrators of small- to mid-sized turbines and compressors that allow FCN to operate as a turbomachinery controller. A Frequency Input Module has also been released for the wind power market.

FCN Enhancements

New modules for turbomachinery control (NFGP813, NFGS813)
For vendors and integrators of small- to mid-sized turbines and compressors, Yokogawa has developed new FCN control modules. These include a Servo Module that controls the rotational speed of small- to mid-sized turbomachinery and a High Speed Protection Module that protects machines by detecting anomalies such as excessive rotation speeds.

New module for wind power market (NFAF135)
A new Frequency Input Module has been released that can accurately measure the rotational speed of wind turbine blades. Accuracy is assured even at very low speeds.

Windows 7 now supported
FCN/FCJ R3.10 is compatible with Windows 7. From this release, the following Windows editions are supported:

New migration tool added to FOUNDATION fieldbus configurator
To facilitate the transition to a new engineering environment, a new FF Segment Configuration Data Conversion Tool converts previous FOUNDATION fieldbus data (before R2) to the latest R3 data format.

Improvements to DNP3 Communication Portfolio (NT8036J)
The DNP3 communications protocol has been enhanced to bring it into compliance with the latest DNP specifications and cover a wider range of SCADA applications.

The cost of sending maintenance engineers to the widely distributed sites to inspect the production equipment poses a heavy financial burden. Yokogawa has enhanced the FCN-RTU low power autonomous controller by adding support for the FOUNDATION fieldbus and HART digital communication protocols, thereby giving it the capability to centrally manage the field devices.With it’s capability, maintenance can be achieved on right time, then maintenance cost is dramatically reduced.

Reduced wiring cost

FCN-RTU with FOUNDATION fieldbus receives multi-variable data (temperature, pressure, etc.) from a multi-sensing transmitter over a single cable, and also allows multi-drop connections with field devices. This reduces wiring installation and maintenance costs, and the simplified wiring is easier to maintain.

High Accuracy

Communication between FCN-RTU and transmitter via FOUNDATION fieldbus lessens the need for digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital data conversion, and then improves the data accuracy.

Highly efficient device inspection and predictive maintenance
By using this FCN-RTU together with Plant Resource Manager (PRM™), Yokogawa’s integrated device management software package, field devices information at remote site can be centrally managed. This information can be used to schedule inspections, improving maintenance efficiency. PRM’s diagnostic functions such as differential pressure transmitter impulse line blocking diagnosis allow maintenance engineers to determine when maintenance should be performed. With predictive maintenance, a device is maintained before it fails; this is particularly useful with devices installed in remote locations, where a quick response is difficult.

New Release R1.86

To realize Operational Excellence, a core concept of VigilantPlant, the System Integration OPC Station (SIOS) has been greatly improved in CENTUM CS 3000 R3 R3.08. The combination of the CS 3000 and STARDOM FCN/FCJ is an “Integration Revolution” that enables entire plants and other sites to have the same look and feel in their user interfaces.

On October 27, 2006, we released a new solution that integrates the control and monitoring of utilities at geographically distributed sites with CENTUM CS 3000 R3.08 and STARDOM R1.86. Via the SIOS, all data from each system can be displayed with the same look and feel on CS 3000 Human Interface Station (HIS) windows. And with the Consolidated Alarm Management Software for Human Interface Station (CAMS for HIS), all alarm management is integrated. With this enhancement, central controls are secured using the CS 3000 on the Vnet/IP control network. Furthermore, utility control and monitoring have adapted for the STARDOM FCN/FCJ autonomous controllers, with the benefit of network expandability using existing network infrastructure.

    The maximum number of devices which can be connected to FCN/FCJ using FCN/FCJ OPC server for Windows is expanded. This expansion enables FCN/FCJ to be applied to distributed SCADA projects such as in the oil and gas market.
