Cyber-attacks have become increasingly sophisticated and even with basic security measures and implementation of the latest anti-virus software the best computer security can be breached. Users may be unaware that their systems have become compromised due to server attacks, malware infection targeted at zero-day vulnerability, unauthorized access or loss of vital information. The number of incidents involving attempted unauthorised access to computer systems via the internet as reported by CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) was 137,539 in 2003. Statistics show an exponential increase in the number of reported incidents in the last five years.
