CENTUM

CENTUM Distributed Control System

1975

Release of CENTUM, the world's first distributed process control system

Although centralized control systems were still dominant in the industry, there was growing demand by the mid 1970s for distributed process control systems capable of controlling the operation and maintenance of production facilities at our customers’ increasingly large and complex industrial plants and taking a distributed approach to the management of process units, functions, geographic areas, risks, and other aspects of plant operations. We drew on our extensive expertise in analog instrumentation to develop a digital distributed process control system that made use of the latest microprocessors and high speed telecommunications technologies and were the first company to bring such a system to market.

DPharp

DPharp EJ
Transmitter

1991

Launch of DPharp differential pressure / pressure transmitter with silicon resonant sensor, a world first

In 1991, Yokogawa began selling the DPharp differential pressure and pressure transmitter that makes use of a revolutionary new silicon resonant sensor developed by Yokogawa. Named based on the words “differential pressure and high accuracy resonant pressure sensor,” the DPharp transmitter has generated considerable interest in the marketplace because of their ability to achieve highly accurate and stable, drift-free results over long periods of time.

Prosafe-RS

Prosafe-RS
Safety Instrumented System

2005

Release of ProSafe-RS safety instrumented system that integrates control with safety

Safety instrumented systems ensure the safe operation of a plant by constantly monitoring parameters and halting operations if established limits are exceeded. The ProSafe-RS safety instrumented system is certified for compliance with both the IEC61511 process automation standard and the IEC61508 functional safety standard, a world first that has brought attention to Yokogawa’s advanced technology and the quality of its safety instrumented systems.
ProSafe-RS also offers a number of advantages to conventional safety systems in that it can be used in combination with CENTUM, the world's leading production control system. By achieving true integration between the production control and safety functions, it is possible to access and manage all plant data and also manage the ProSafe-RS system from the production control system side. In this way, safety can be enhanced in every aspect of a plant’s operations.
The advantages of ProSafe-RS are well proven. Within seven years of going on sale, ProSafe-RS became one of the top-selling safety instrumented systems.
