EuroPACT in Copenhagen: EU-wide PAT Trialogue

For several years Werner Worringen has been working as Industry Marketing Manager Analytical Solutions at Yokogawa Germany. Since then he has also been involved in numerous committees relating to process analytics. As a member of the extended executive board, he is also a member of the Process Analytics Working Group (AK PAT), which was established in 2005 and now has 365 members. Working group of the Division of Analytical Chemistry within the German Chemical Society (GDCh), which works closely with DECHEMA (Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology). This is also the case with regard to EuroPACT, which will be held in Copenhagen in May.

AR and VR offer enormous potential – including for the process industry

#BLOG Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality – even if their exact meaning is certainly not familiar to everyone, today at least everyone should have heard of these two terms before. And this mostly in connection with video games like #Pokémon Go, #TV and movies. Or perhaps with a view to architecture, sports, medicine, navigation, (flight and driving) simulation, learning, art, photography, or entertainment in general.

Artificial Intelligence: Far more than Terminator, K.I.T.T. or R2-D2

Artificial intelligence? Sure, they’re robots or androids. For example the little R2-D2 from the Star Wars saga or the Terminator from the Hollywood blockbuster of the same name by master director James Cameron. Even K.I.T.T, David Hasselhoff’s cult car in the 80s series “Knight Rider” with its own personality is KI. By no means. Rather, KI – to put it in its simplest terms – is first and foremost a computer software that is practically adaptive and self-improving on this basis. And it already surrounds us almost everywhere.

Algae: A jack-of-all-trades with enormous potential and a bad reputation 2/2

No, they don’t exactly have a good reputation. No wonder. For in some places on our planet they develop into a real plague through their sometimes massive appearance. They damage the immediate environment, are even dangerous and have far-reaching consequences such as oxygen depletion for other organisms in water bodies (“dead zones”) or a decline in tourism. For science, on the other hand, they are an extremely exciting field of research. And from an entrepreneurial point of view, they are even regarded as the raw material of the future. Exactly, they are algae, which at first glance combine these partly contrary potentials. The second and last part of the two-part blog article deals with the possible uses of algae in science and industry.
