Integrated Production Control System
CENTUM VP consists of four components which are operation and monitoring functions, engineering functions, control functions, and a network communication system.
It can be flexibly configured to suit the requirements of plants both large and small in a wide variety of industries.
In addition, integration with ProSafe-RS safety instrumented systems, STARDOM network-based control systems, and different generations of CENTUM systems extends its scope of operations.
CENTUM VP also manages plant assets with Plant Resource Manager.
Human Interface Station (HIS)
The CENTUM VP human interface station (HIS) uses the latest version of the Windows operating system and commercial-off-the-shelf PC hardware. An optional specialized keyboard is available for the operator console. Users can choose between desktop and console HIS versions, with widescreen or standard-sized monitors.
All windows use a universal color scheme. The control data on the HIS is refreshed at one second intervals.

Engineering Station (ENG)
The engineering station (ENG) uses the same hardware and software as the HIS, but also has engineering software such as a graphics builder and PID and sequence control programs for configuring the CENTUM VP system based on the specific requirements of the plant environment.

Field Control Station (FCS)
Unified Gateway Station (UGS)
The unified gateway station (UGS) acts as an interface, allowing CENTUM VP to communicate with STARDOM network-based control systems or other third-party subsystems such as Modbus RTUs, Modbus/TCP units, EtherNet/IP units, OPC DA units, and intelligent electronic devices (IEDs). It utilizes the EC 61850 protocol,
which has been widely adopted by the power industry.
Wide Area Communication (WAC) Router
The WAC router allows connections between Vnet/IP domains over a wide area network (WAN). FCS and safety control stations (SCS) distributed over a wide area can be monitored and controlled using a public or satellite network, with no loss in reliability or security.

Bus Converter (BCV)
A bus converter (BCV) serves as an interface for the V net router, allowing it to connect to multiple control networks. A BCV can be used to connect a legacy CENTUM series system to a CENTUM VP system, a low-cost solution that allows a customer to continue using the legacy system while executing a phased upgrade to CENTUM VP.
Vnet/IP Control Network
CENTUM VP supports FOUNDATION™ fieldbus, HART, PROFIBUS-DP, DeviceNet, Modbus, Modbus/TCP, and Ethernet/IP. It gives users the freedom to select field devices based on the application, capabilities, reliability, and price, irrespective of communication protocols. By giving access to abundant process data from intelligent field devices, it enables both preventive and predictive maintenance for plant assets as well as advanced control operations.
ProSafe-RS Safety Control Station (SCS)
The ProSafe-RS SCS is a safety instrumented controller that puts a plant in a safe state if emergency conditions arise. Fully integrated with CENTUM VP, it has been certified by TÜV for SIL3 applications and has passed Wurdtech Security’s Achilles V1.2 test, attesting to its robust protection against cyber attacks.
