Artificial Intelligence: Far more than Terminator, K.I.T.T. or R2-D2

Artificial intelligence? Sure, they’re robots or androids. For example the little R2-D2 from the Star Wars saga or the Terminator from the Hollywood blockbuster of the same name by master director James Cameron. Even K.I.T.T, David Hasselhoff’s cult car in the 80s series “Knight Rider” with its own personality is KI. By no means. Rather, KI – to put it in its simplest terms – is first and foremost a computer software that is practically adaptive and self-improving on this basis. And it already surrounds us almost everywhere.

Safety needs friends… (Part 2/2)

As we have seen in part 1 of this article, there are processes that cause a system’s performance to (prematurely) deteriorate or that the system can no longer fulfil its purpose. As we will see, these processes are not so different for cars (part 1) and safety systems in the process industry. However, there is a big difference in the rules and regulations during operation. We drivers have a bit of the “main inspection” and perhaps the “inspection booklet” of the manufacturer on our backs. Otherwise the legislator more or less leaves it to us to admonish to be on the road with a “safe” vehicle. This is quite different with regard to safety in the process industry. There is a multitude of laws, rules etc. that must be observed.

When music streaming meets crude oil

The digitalization of music has forced an entire industry to make a drastic change, which with new business models, especially streaming, has again developed into a growth market in recent years. Let’s remember a little backwards: Filesharing services were initially very popular. Wouldn’t it have a certain charm to get the music directly from the artist and pay him and all those involved quickly and fairly? But how can the integrity of such a software system be guaranteed? The blockchain can make an important contribution to this – also in all areas of the economy, where numerous ideas for new business models are developed and tested against this background.
