WEBFREX3ES measures the coat weight of battery electrode sheets with high accuracy on the battery electrode production line, which improves the safety and performance of the battery, and reduces production cost.

WEBFREX3ES is a coat-weight measurement system specifically designed for battery electrode sheets that contain the latest application know-how and advanced sensor technology.

This measurement system helps to improve cost optimization, as well as the safety and performance of the battery, which is important for the coating process of rechargeable battery electrodes.

WEBFREX3ES utilizes dedicated Beta-ray sensors that are used to calculate the coat weight of a sheet by determining the difference in weight before and after it is coated. It provides calculation and display functions to respond to various coatings on battery electrode sheets.

System Configuration

WEBFREX3ES consists of up to five frames which accommodate a Beta- ray type sensor, a measurement manager station to generate coat weight profiles, operator stations, and a profile stack server. The system is equipped with various functions provided for the battery electrode process, including high-speed and high-precision synchronization scanning, automatic identification of coated or non-coated parts, zone trend panel, profile data tracking and a material coefficient window. All major components are originally developed and manufactured at our factories under the high quality control policy proven by highly reliable DCS and field instruments.

Lines for battery electrode sheets are compact in size to ensure that installation spaces for conventional frames are the appropriate thickness. The simplified drive mechanism of the Compact O frame allows it to be placed in space-saving designed lines for battery electrode sheets.

Optional WEBFREX3ES software packages are available that provide profile stack servers and real-time 3D profile viewing and analysis functions. These packages can store, display and analyze profile data for extended periods and can be used to judge sheet production quality at a single glance. Integrating this package with a quality rating cutting system helps ensure the efficient and stable production of high quality products.

FrameCompactly designed frames can be installed in the limited space of a battery electrode production facility. This space-saving frame performs high-speed scanning by using our unique drive mechanism to precisely measure the quality of high value-added sheets.

This frame consists of its main body, a linear servo-drive system, a frame processor and a sensor head package.

Minimum Scan Time of Three Seconds

The totally redesigned drive mechanism provides three-second scans (shortest time of one-way scan) and performs high-density measurement.

Accurate Coat Weight Measurement with Synchronous Measurement System

The coat weight is obtained using an indirect measurement method by subtracting the before-coating weight from the after-coating weight. The coat weight measurement data of each scanner contains the process variations caused by uniformity of the base sheet and fluctuation of the coated material. In WEBFREX3ES, all the frames in a system measure the exact same spot by the following technologies: 1/1000 mm position resolution in the linear servo motor and the synchronization scan management by the independent processor. To obtain the accurate coat weight with the indirect measurement method, detecting the same spot of the object with every scanner (the Synchronization Measurement) is absolutely important.

Intuitive Design, Easy-to- Use

WEBFREX3ES has a variety of easy-to-use operation and monitoring screens. Operation screens display a profile that is easy to comprehend and shows the frame / sensor status and thickness measurement data. Operation management screens facilitate reporting as well as the management of various film and sheet grades. With a single mouse click, online guidance screens can be displayed from each of these screens.

The Beta-ray sensor uses a transmission method and provides highly accurate and stable measurement. The radiation source of this sensor is Kr (krypton). In order to minimize the influence of the disturbance, the sensor contains temperature compensation, air purging and other unique features based on 30 years of field experience.

High Measurement Accuracy

Beta-ray sensors measure both the object and the surrounding air layer. The sensor compensates for this by using an air purge mechanism to keep the air layer at a constant temperature and density thereby minimizing its impact on measurement accuracy. It also contains an automatic compensation function for the decay of the light source and a calculation function to reduce radiation noise. These and other functions ensure stable and highly accurate measurement.

  • Stores up to four lines of profiles (maximum six profiles per line) on a roll-by-roll basis
  • Saves long-term profile data
  • Open database structure allows users to easily access data via a PC
  • Outputs data in CSV format, allowing users to read files using general-purpose software such as Excel on their PCs

Real Time 3D Profile View and Analysis Function

  • Invokes and displays profile data collected by the profile stack server on a roll-by-roll basis
  • Displays collected roll thickness distribution data in different colors for each standard value, making it possible to grasp the roll quality situation at a glance
  • Displays trends for profile data maximum, minimum, and average values
  • Displays profiles, overlay profiles, and machine directional trends at the position indicated by a cursor
  • Specifies and zooms in on a range for analysis
