Turbine Control Solutions

System configuration

Integrated platform for the entire plant
An integrated system enables seamless operation via a common interface for an entire power plant encompassing the boilers, burner management systems, balance of plant, and turbine systems. Servo and protection modules handle the critical turbine control together with standard DCS hardware, while Yokogawa’s safety system protects the turbine. In terms of security, ISASecure-certified controllers ensure safe operation.

Project execution
Yokogawa is highly experienced in projects to retrofit mechanical turbine governors and dedicated controllers for turbine control. Supply, installation and commissioning encompass speed sensors, their brackets, hydraulic trip block systems, hydraulic actuators, oil filters, turbine supervisory instrumentation, synchronizers, automatic voltage regulators and oil purification systems. Even when replacing equipment supplied by the turbine manufacturer as part of the turbine units, Yokogawa can successfully upgrade obsolete controls to leading-edge systems. For new generation units, we are experienced in implementing turbine protection and control functions for their respective turbine suppliers to realize integrated power plant control systems for users.

Extensive support for secure operation
Our 230 local service offices in 80 countries offer extensive support for users. Through your nearest service office, Yokogawa can provide cost-effective service and maintenance spares for both plant and turbine control systems. Customer's Voice
“We cannot imagine operating our plant without Yokogawa’s full-replica simulator.”

Nguyen Khac Son, CEO of Pha Lai Thermo Power Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of the biggest power producer in Vietnam, Electric of Vietnam (EVN), said, “Through simulator training, our probationary and new operators can quickly learn how to operate our 300-megawatt coal-fired unit using exactly the same operator interface as the real system. Even experienced operators can effectively learn how to deal with every conceivable accident because it’s so realistic. We cannot imagine running our plant without Yokogawa’s full-replica simulator. It is essential not only for our plant but also for operators at EVN’s other plants. In addition, many power plant operators of PVN† come here for simulator training to learn how to operate a coal-fired power plant with Yokogawa DCS. So, our simulator is used to train most operators of the biggest and second biggest power producers in Vietnam.”

Industries:
Application Note
Overview:

In process operations, there are instances where ratio control is required to maintain a consistent blend of two or more components. This control action is used in chemical, food & beverage, and pharmaceutical batching operations.

Overview:

YS1000 Series instruments can accept ONE direct input when a signal conditioning option is specified. The direct input replaces one of the non-isolated 4 to 20mADC (using a 250Ω shunt resistor) or 1 to 5VDC inputs. YS1700 can accept five analog inputs. YS1500 can accept four and YS1310, YS1350, YS1360 can accept two analog inputs. In all cases, one input can be signal conditioned.

Overview:

Most SLPC and YS170 controllers in the field contain a custom program stored on an EPROM in the case of the SLPC and in NVRAM in the case of the YS170. When upgrading from an SLPC or YS170 to a YS1700, it is necessary to either rewrite the program in YS1700 language or convert the program from SLPC or YS170.

Application Note
Overview:

Yokogawa enjoyed strong sales of its line of YS80 instruments from their inception in 1980 to discontinuation in 2008. Thousands of the SLCD (single loop controller) and SLPC (programmable controller) where sold in the United States. As parts began to become scarce, the next generation of high-end controller was designed and released as the YS100 series.

Overview:

Both centrifigal and axial compressors cannot be allowed to operate below the surge limit of the operating conditions. The machinery may be exposed to excessive stress and vibration. If the discharge flow demand is less than the compressor surge limit, some of that flow must be vented or recycled to the inlet to stay above surge.

Overview:

Fossil fuels have long been used as a heat source in power generation. Coal is one of the more common fuels, but environmental concerns have led to a great deal of time, effort and money being spent on the reduction of pollutants resulting from the use of coal.

Industries:
Overview:

Industrial facilities where power and steam is produced (i.e., Cogeneration) exhibit a very good potential for real time monitoring and optimization using Visual MESA Energy Management System.

Based on our extensive experience, overall benefit in the range of 2% to 5% of the total energy cost can be achieved. Expected project payback is always less than one year.

Visual MESA was successfully applied to many industrial facilities worldwide, several of them operating steam and power generation networks of different complexity and capacity but all with energy cost savings.

Overview:

Chemical plants, nuclear power plants, and large-scale engineering systems including railways and aircraft must be operated at least safely enough so as to not affect the surrounding environment. Furthermore, it is apparent that even only one accident or problem becomes the target of fierce criticism from the general public, as seen in the response of people to the accident of the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant of the Tokyo Electric Power Company and the problems with Boeing's 787 jetliners.

Industries:
Overview:

Recently, there is an increasing demand for operation and monitoring of all the various controllers distributed in the field on the same screens to improve plant operation efficiency. The purpose of the Unified Gateway Station (UGS) is to connect external controllers, such as the STARDOM's FCN/FCJ autonomous controllers and other vendors' controllers, to the CENTUM VP integrated production control system and to operate and monitor those external controllers on the Human Interface Station (HIS) screens, the operation and monitoring screens for the CENTUM VP.
