Yokogawa has developed the FN110, a small, light, intrinsically safe construction communication module conforming to ISA100.11a to resolve various problems for vendors. The FN110 was developed to promote ISA100.11a compliant products. By combining the co-developed FN310 field wireless multi-protocol module, the FN110 can unwire various existing wired field devices. The FN110 achieves better communication performance than existing field wireless devices by integrating components and circuits into the antenna module, such as an antenna and radio frequency (RF) circuits.

Yokogawa has developed the FN310, a small, inexpensive, intrinsically safe multiprotocol module. When used with the FN110 field wireless communication module, the FN310 can unwire various existing field devices which support field digital protocols such as FOUNDATION™ fieldbus and HART. Furthermore, the batteries in this module can also supply power to the FN110 and field device, which eliminates cables not only for data communication but also for power supply. The FN310 can achieve entirely field wireless communication.

Temperature Monitoring Solution Using DTSX200 Fiber Optic Distributed Temperature Sensor

In recent years, needs have been diversifying regarding site safety (fire detection and leak detection) and facilities diagnosis. Regarding temperature monitoring, however, it is difficult to meet these needs with existing point type temperature sensors such as thermocouples and resistance temperature detectors (RTDs). Yokogawa’s fiber optic distributed temperature sensors (DTS) can simultaneously, continuously and reliably monitor all temperatures along optic fiber cables that are freely installed over a required area. This paper introduces the advantages of a temperature monitoring solution with the DTS system, provides application examples, and tips on the installation of fiber optic cables.

Ultra High Corrosion-resistant Aluminum for Differential Pressure and Pressure Transmitter Housings

  • Makoto Watanabe*1

*1 : Mechanical Hardware D&E Dept., Global Development Center, IA Platform Business Headquarters

In recent years, demand for corrosion-resistant housings has been growing for field instruments, especially those for marine and coastal applications. To satisfy this need, Yokogawa has picked ultra high corrosion-resistant aluminum for differential pressure and pressure transmitter housings, in addition to conventional stainless steel. Although aluminum is inferior to stainless steel in corrosion resistance, it is superior in weight and cost. Ultra high corrosion-resistant aluminum has high corrosion resistance properties close to stainless steel while maintaining the merits of aluminum. This paper describes the corrosion resistance property of ultra high corrosion-resistant aluminum when used for differential pressure and pressure transmitter housings.

From the viewpoint of safety and productivity, it is very important to control coating positions of battery electrodes in the coating process of rechargeable battery electrode sheets. Conventionally, the coating positions were measured after the drying process. However, early feedback of position data to the coating process is required to improve productivity. In addition, to make rechargeable batteries much safer, the coating positions need to be controlled more accurately. To meet such market needs, Yokogawa has developed the EdgeEye, an online coating position gauge for battery electrode sheets. This device- dedicated for measuring the coating positions, which can calibrate measurements by using a built-in scale traceable to the national standard-accurately measures the coating positions immediately after the coating process. This paper describes the specifications, configuration and features of EdgeEye.

2558A an AC Voltage Current Standard with Unprecedented Efficiency in Calibration Work

  • Ken Inoue*1

*1 : Development & Engineering Dept.1 Yokogawa Meters & Instruments Corporation

Yokogawa Meters & Instruments Corporation has developed 2558A, a new AC voltage current standard that offers a high accuracy of ± 0.04% for AC voltage and ± 0.05% for AC current, and a high stability of ± 50 ppm/h. This instrument achieves high accuracy and stability through a redesign of the circuits and structure of the former 2558 model while maintaining its well-accepted operability and visibility. In addition, the 2558A can easily calibrate watt-hour meters including smart meters, which are recently attracting attention. This paper introduces the main features and internal circuits of the 2558A.
