Yokogawa’s STARDOM controller accurately calculates the position of the sun and precisely controls the actuators that keep the solar pannels properly aligned with the sun.

The Stardom RTU controller uses the Solar Position Algorithm of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory of the United States Department of Energy for single- and dual-axis tracking and positioning, and offers an inverter interface via Modbus TCP as well as DNP3 and Modbus RS interface options.

Customer Challenge

Hybrid plants that combine solar, wind, and BESS are difficult to operate without a unified control system. Independent subsystems create unstable power delivery, inefficient battery dispatch, and challenges in meeting grid-code requirements. Operators risk increased curtailment, performance losses, and reduced reliability if they cannot coordinate generation and storage through a single, intelligent controller.

Solution

A PPC integrated with BESS provides instantaneous support during sudden drops in renewable generation by injecting power from the battery, maintaining frequency and voltage stability. Through intelligent State of Charge (SoC) management, coordinated dispatch, and strict ramp-rate control, the system ensures smooth, predictable, and compliant power delivery to the grid—even under highly variable operating conditions.
