Yokogawa Awarded for Strong Drive towards Training & Skills Development

Johannesburg, South Africa–December 15, 2014 - Yokogawa South Africa recently received a Merit Award from the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) for their “Consistent attainment in participation in and practice of the co-operative education”.

VUT is one of Yokogawa’s Tertiary Institution partners facilitating the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Programme to students in the field of Process Instrumentation & Control. Work Integrated Learning forms part of a learner’s three year curriculum to complete a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering. Learners spend two years at a University of Technology to complete the academic work (theory and practical), followed by one year of Work Integrated Learning at a company that has been accredited to facilitate the WIL Programme.

Yokogawa South Africa has embarked on a strong drive towards training and skills development facilitated by the appointment of a Service Training Manager, Nico Marneweck, early in 2009. “What makes Yokogawa’s Internship programme unique is that Yokogawa is strong in the field of Control and Field Measurement (Pressure, Temperature, Flow, Level and Liquid & Gas Analytical). In terms of the Control Field, Yokogawa launched the worlds’ first Distributed Control System (DCS) back in 1975, while in the Measurement Field, Yokogawa developed and released the worlds’ first, and only, silicon digital sensor differential pressure transmitter”, elaborates Marneweck.

VUT first accredited Yokogawa South Africa in May 2011. In November 2014, VUT celebrated their ten year anniversary as a University of Technology of which Yokogawa’s WIL Programme formed an integral part of their Business Model. To date, Yokogawa South Africa has hosted a total of 41 learners for their accredited year of WIL. Yokogawa is now accredited for the next three years at VUT to offer the WIL Programme.
