We have developed a wide-area communications system that uses the circuits of a common carrier, such as Japan's NTT, to seamlessly integrate CENTUM CS systems located far from each other. Multiple relay circuits, connected to the CENTUM CS systems by bridges, are used in a load-sharing, wide-area communications system to guarantee high throughput and high reliability. This paper describes the bridges -- a key component of this wide-area communications system.

We have newly developed the DR230/240 Hybrid Recorders so that they can measure up to 300 inputs of DCV, TC, RTD, AC, Strain, mA DC signals, and contact signals, at 0.5-second intervals.

This paper describes the design features of these recorders.

ENGINEERING METHODS USING CENTUM CS BATCH PACKAGE

  • SANO Naoki*1
  • KIBATA Hitoshi*1

In this paper, we introduce the application template package developed using the CS Batch package that runs on CENTUM CS systems. These templates are intended for use in a polymerization plant. This application template package contains software for the typical polymerization plant that includes control applications and documentation such as DCS function specifications, which have been designed and developed from engineering expertise in the field of batch processing. DCS users can easily perform engineering on a batch process using these templates.

ONLINE SYSTEM UPGRADE ON CENTUM CS FCSs

We have developed the online system upgrade function for CENTUM CS FCSs*2. This function operates on hardware with a dual-redundant configuration and can upgrade the system software online. The control function only requires the system to pause for two seconds for upgrading. In conjunction with the existing online application data modification function, this function increases the maintainability and availability of DCSs*3. If applied to continuous process control, this function can significantly reduce maintenance costs. This paper describes the features, architecture and operations of the function.

INFORMATION UNIFICATION BETWEEN ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING

  • SEKI Yutaka*1

*1 PIM Center, Industrial Automation Systems Business Div.

We have developed a communication software package, LinkforSap, that enables direct connection between the SAP R/3 enterprise resource planning (ERP) system and the CENTUM production control system. We also offer software packages for the manufacturing execution system (MES) that close the information gap between the ERP system and production control system and also serve as a real-time business model of the manufacturing enterprise. LinkforSap is a key component of these MES software packages. This paper describes the features of and introduces the functions of LinkforSap.

ULTRASONIC VORTEX FLOWMETER "ULTRA YEWFLO-UYF200"

*1 Flowmeters Center Industrial Measurement Business Div.

We have developed the ultrasonic vortex flowmeter "ULTRA YEWFLO" specifically for liquid measurement. This flowmeter detects the vortex shedding frequency that is proportional to the flowrate. The flowmeter has a simple construction with no moving parts which means that it is not affected by clogging caused by slurry or rust inside the pipe. Since the ultrasonic wave is transmitted and received outside the pipe using piezo-electric elements, the flowmeter is not affected by pipe vibrations. Furthermore, the sensors are made of on-line replaceable construction that enables the sensor to be maintained on-line.

We have redesigned the shape of the vortex shedder to achieve higher accuracy. Signal processing has been changed to cover the entire ranges with only one type of amplifier regardless of the type of fluid, the temperature, or the meter sizes. This was achieved by adopting the phase modulation system and multi-reference processing.

This paper describes its measurement, structure, and signal processing.
