Cyber Security

Meet Rob Turner as he presents ‘Safe and Secure? Current Trends in Industrial Cyber Security’, as part of the ISA Ireland Section Tech Talk series, to be held at the Rochestown Hotel, Cork on 7th December 2017.

The recent edition of the IEC standard for Safety Instrumented Systems IEC 61511 2nd edition acknowledges the relationship between safety and security, and it now requires end users to develop and conduct a security risk assessment on SIS systems. There is also the ISA 99 (IEC 62443) standard for industrial cyber security that would appear to occupy the same space. These two standards have highlighted the growing need to understand and manage the relationship between security and safety within the process industry sectors. Rob will present an overview of cyber security from the perspective of a practicing consultant in industrial cyber security, highlighting where the requirements for OT systems differ from the IT world, give an insight to some of the legislation that will have an impact in this area and outline a possible approach to achieving safety securely.
