When expandable model subunits are connected serially, if a middle subunit's power cuts out, what happens to the downstream subunits?

In principle, they should continue to run even if their upstream subunit has a power failure. However, temporal effects will be experienced (data acquisition will be temporarily lost, or certain data might become damaged).
