Yokogawa Joins EURO2MOON, a European Initiative Dedicated to Sustainable Lunar and Space Exploration

Yokogawa Europe B.V. has become an official member of EURO2MOON, an industry-led association focused on topics related to the exploration of the lunar surface and the commercial and sustainable utilization of its resources.

The membership is a key initiative for Yokogawa as it looks to expand its space-related activities in Europe. Yokogawa will draw on its track record of over 100 years in measurement, control, and information technologies as well as its experience in providing various products to the space industry.

As part of EURO2MOON, Yokogawa will design and develop technologies and services for the lunar industrial ecosystem, including automation solutions and bespoke products to enable the effective use of resources.

EURO2MOON and Yokogawa are in perfect harmony as they both function under the umbrella of co-innovation. The different member organizations and companies Air Liquide Advanced Technologies, Airbus Defence & Space, ANRT, Arthur D Little, CEA, ESRIC, ispace, OHB, OffWorld, and Spartan Space collaborate towards a united vision of space resources utilization, to serve the purpose of space transportation, energy production, and life support in space, for space.

The technology and services envisioned by EURO2MOON members, such as clean energy-based hydrogen and oxygen production processes, and the use of reusable

and recyclable products for in-situ resource utilization (ISRU), will contribute to a circular economy and the sustainable development goals (SDGs) on Earth.

Niels Koek, director of European Space Business Development at Yokogawa Europe states: “Yokogawa is excited to join EURO2MOON, a unique association for industrial partners as well as research organizations interested in the development of technologies or services that can benefit lunar resources management to aid sustainability in space. In line with our corporate philosophy, through our activities in the Space sector, we aim to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.”

Wolfgang Duerr, President of EURO2MOON warmly welcomes Yokogawa Europe to the association and states, “Yokogawa’s capabilities and activities on lunar exploration, as well as its company values, perfectly match to Euro2Moon’s vision and mission in contributing to build a strong industrial ecosystem in the rising cis-lunar economy and to support the definition of standards for a coordinated approach between all actors involved.”

Bringing in complementary expertise from public and private partners, EURO2MOON will focus on topics related to the exploration of the lunar surface and the utilization of its resources in a commercial and sustainable way.

The objective is to create a platform of exchange in order to build a common vision and promote it among the European industrial and institutional ecosystems, including recommendations on global roadmaps, demonstration concepts and commercial programs. Topics to be addressed will include long duration transport, life support, energy needs for scientific and commercial applications.

EURO2MOON aims to position the European industry as a leading actor of the rising lunar economy, creating a strong industrial ecosystem based on an ambitious “In Situ Resources Utilisation” (ISRU) vision.

The association is based in Luxembourg and is open to industrial partners as well as research organisations interested in the development of technologies or services that can benefit lunar resources management. Any company which has their headquarters or key activities in the European Union or a member state of the European Space Agency, with an ambition towards sustainable development of the Moon, is welcome to join.
