Yokogawa Features Automation and Instrumentation Solutions for the Offshore Oil & Gas Sector

At Offshore Europe 2015, Yokogawa Europe is featuring its comprehensive range of automation and instrumentation solutions for the offshore oil & gas sector, including new developments from the company's VigilantPlant Solutions(TM) consultancy business.

Yokogawa has a wealth of experience in every part of the offshore oil and gas business, providing solutions that enhance safety, ensure accurate and reliable operation, and increase plant efficiency.

Offshore exploration and production requires maximum uptime under harsh conditions. Manned and unmanned facilities need reliable integrated control and safety systems (ICSS) with advanced remote monitoring capabilities. Yokogawa has state-of-the-art technology and extensive experience in executing offshore projects of all sizes and levels of complexity.

Yokogawa is featuring integrated control and monitoring solutions for offshore platforms that are easy to operate, result in fewer operator errors, improve safety, and reduce training time and expense. These include the latest versions of the company's flagship CENTUM VP integrated production control system and the ProSafe SLS safety instrumented system.

On the instrumentation side Yokogawa is featuring its range of digital field wireless pressure and temperature transmitters and interface systems featuring ISA100 Wireless communications to enable sophisticated control techniques in continuous processes.

An important aid to the monitoring of pipelines and subsea installations is Yokogawa's DTSX(R)3000 distributed temperature sensor. With a one-metre spatial resolution, this distributed temperature sensor can measure the temperature along fibre-optic cables up to 50 km in length, eight times the distance possible with the company's previous model. Applications include the monitoring of temperatures in unconventional oil and gas wells and the detection of leaks of high- or low-temperature liquids and gases from pipelines or tanks.

Also on display will be Yokogawa's high-integrity pressure protection system (HIPPS) for use on topside and subsea installations. The system uses high-integrity ESD logic to provide a safety integrity level of SIL4, providing overpressure protection without compromise. This pioneering HIPPS innovation mitigates risk at source with deployment at the subsea wellhead protecting the environment and ensuring safety.

Yokogawa's VigilantPlant Solutions consultancy business will present solutions that ensure business and operations are executed in accordance with agreed standards and procedures while protecting the license to operate. Cyber security, alarm and safety management solutions which monitor and compile KPI (key performance indicator) data for human, asset and environmental protection are central to Yokogawa's VigilantPlant solutions portfolio. These include Exaquantum/SFM which collects, processes and presents safety data to enable monitoring and analysis of key safety KPIs. By monitoring safety instrumented function (SIF) activations and independent layers of protection (ILPs) as well as initiating causes and overrides, the system assesses how an assets-based SIS (Safety Instrumented System) currently performs compared with its original design.
