Is the communication channel function (/MC) required for Ethernet/IP communication between a PLC and the SMARTDAC+ GX/GP?

The GX/GP is an Ethernet/IP communication adapter (server). The communication channel function (/MC) is required when the PLC writes data to the GX/GP. If the PLC only reads GX/GP I/O channel and other data, the communication channel function (/MC) is not required.
